Ed's fitness career began when he servved in the U.S. Army, 1970-1992. Most of his military career was spent in Special Operations with 11.5 years with the US Army's elite counter-terrorist force. While serving his country, Ed learned that fitness was more than running. Fitness also had to do with a good base in the upper body strength department. Capitalizing on this, Ed developed a training philosopy that allowed him to perform at the top of his game. In 1993, a year after his retirement, Ed created a fitness competition that would provide a total body fitness challenge called the STREND Fitness Challenge. As time progressed so did Ed's appetite for more physical challanges. In 1996, he began adventure racing, which is usually mulit-day events where you race in multiple disciplines where the first team to cross the finish line, intact, wins. His first major race was in 1996 where he participated in the 5 day Southern Traverse in New Zealand. Then in 2000 after doing a number of shorter races he participated in the Raid Gauloises held in Tibet and Nepal (10 days), then four months later doing the Eco-Challenge in Borneo. In 2001, at the age of 51, Ed competed in his first 100 mile endurance run, called the HURT 100 which fortunately held in Honolulu, Hawaii. During the fall of 2002, he learned of a way to improve his running technique, called the Pose Method of Running. He was unable to really get involved other than purchasing a video because he took a contract to work in Iraq at the closing days of the war (April) and remained in country till February 2004. He finally took the dive to learn the Pose Method of Running in June 2005. He liked what he learned and today is a Pose Method of Running Certified Coach, level 3 as well as the first level 2 Pose Method of Triathlon Techniques Certified Coach,
